Lundin Mining’s Chapada Mine Returns to Full Production
Earlier in September this year, the company had announced updates on timeline for Chapada mine restart.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Toronto-headquartered Lundin Mining Corporation announced that its Chapada copper and gold mine in Brazil has returned to full production. A power outage had caused significant damages to its mill motors, this affecting the mine operations.
According to company press release, the installation of the remaining repaired motor on the ball mill was completed on December 20th. The processing plant had achieved approximately 35% of normal production capacity while operating only the SAG mill, with resumption of operations of two motors. The throughput had further improved mid-November with the installation of a single motor on the ball mill, it noted.

The mine is well positioned to deliver 2021 guidance, it added. The company expects the mine to produce 51,000to 56,000 tonnes of copper and 70,000 to 75,000 ounces of gold next year.
Earlier in September this year, the company had announced updates on timeline for Chapada mine restart. At that time, it had anticipated full restart of operations within a period of two months.
All four damaged mill motors were removed and transported to repair facilities within the country.
