SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Toronto-headquartered Lundin Mining Corporation provided initial update on the expected timeline to restart operations at the Chapada mine in Brazil. The copper and gold mine had reported significant damages to its mill motors after a power outage.
According to company press release, it is currently engaged in activities so as to resume partial processing within one week. A return to full production is likely to be achieved within at least two months. The four damaged mill motors are being removed and transported to repair facilities within the country. The motors are expected to reach the facilities later this week. Repair costs will be known by next week.

Lundin Mining declared that it has already installed the online spare motor on the SAG mill. The second spare motor is anticipated to arrive at the mine site early next week. The processing on the SAG mill will be resumed with these two motors. The expected rate of production is predicted at around 30% of the normal production capacity.
The company announced other operational adjustments in response to the current situation. It has decided to bring forward the mill maintenance, originally planned for October this year. Furthermore, it also plans to undertake crusher and conveyor maintenance at the mine.
The Chapada mine is expected to produce 51,000-56,000 tonnes of copper and 70,000-75,000 ounces of gold in 2021.
