Alcoa Europe Facilities Awarded Prestigious ASI Certification
The new facilities to earn the certification are the Fjarðaál smelter in Iceland, the Lista smelter in Norway, and the San Ciprián refinery in Spain.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Pittsburgh-based aluminum maker Alcoa Corporation announced that three of its European manufacturing sites have received prestigious Aluminum Stewardship Initiative (ASI) certification. The ASI certification is the industry’s most comprehensive validation of sustainable manufacturing process by a third party.
The new facilities to earn the certification are the Fjarðaál smelter in Iceland, the Lista smelter in Norway, and the San Ciprián refinery in Spain. With this, the company has earned similar certifications for a total of 13 sites, including three bauxite mines, five alumina refineries, and five aluminum smelters and casthouses.
Commenting on the milestone achievement, Rosa García Pineiro, Vice President of Sustainability for Alcoa said that the certifications demonstrate the company’s strategic priority to advance sustainably. Further, he congratulated the employees of all the three locations for their hard work in earning the certification and operating with excellence.

Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer, ASI congratulated Alcoa on the three ASI Performance Standard Certifications in Europe. The new certifications are a validation of company-wide efforts to implement responsible practices along the value chain. Furthermore, it demonstrates the company’s continued strong support of ASI’s mission, he added.
Recently, Paris-headquartered Constellium SE had obtained ASI certification for its Neuf-Brisach, France facility.
