China Extends Deadline for New Scrap Metal Certification
Previously, the companies were given time only until 3rd September for submission of the application in paper or electronic formats.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association’s recycling branch (CMRA) announced that the deadline for companies to apply for new scrap metal certification has been extended till the end of the current year. Previously, the companies were given time only until 3rd September for submission of the application in paper or electronic formats.
The press release said that it has come to the notice of the association that the previously announced time period is not adequate to complete the application process. The decision to extend the deadline has been arrived at, after careful consideration of feedback from several companies.

Meantime, the industry participants stated that the proposed solid waste law could impact imports of copper scrap into the country. The latest trade data suggests significant decline in copper scrap trade volumes. The country’s copper scrap imports recorded massive decline by 92% over the previous year to total 75,113 mt in July 2020. At the same time, the annual demand for copper in the country has been revised higher to 11.56 mt by Beijing Antaike-the state-run metals consultancy.
