DS Smith Declares Series of Solidarity Actions to Mitigate COVID-19 Impacts

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Packaging leader DS Smith has announced a series of solidarity measures to help mitigate the impacts of COVID-19.

DS Smith’s Madrid plant announced that it will manufacture and donate 10,000 bedside tables to for use by patients at IFEMA field hospital. As part of the hashtag campaign  #WeStopThisVirusTogether, the tables will have the slogan printed on them. By doing so, the company aims to convey a very positive message of encouragement for the patients. The auxiliary tables will be made from corrugated cardboard, which ensures easy destruction when no longer used.

As part of efforts to manage the increase in waste which has been produced in Spanish hospitals, the company has partnered with the municipal and environmental services of Ferrovial. DS Smith will donate 8,000 cardboard bins to the Burgos University Hospital and the Marqués de Valdecilla University Hospital, in Santander towards collection of hospital waste.

In addition, various sites belonging to DS Smith Paper division have made donations to local charities and hospitals, aimed at helping some of the most vulnerable people. The Lucca, Italy paper mill employees donated €6,000 worth of safety equipment. DS Smith Kemsley, UK paper mill donated  £1,000 to the Swale Foodbank. Also, the fleet logistics team in the UK donated £1,000 to Porchlight Homeless Charity.
