About Yard

Windfield Alloy Inc. is committed to quality, excellence and the continual improvement of our environmental performance and pollution prevention produced through our asset recovery and recycling programs. We regularly demonstrate our responsible corporate citizenship to both the environment and all of our customers.

Single Source Recycling, Refining & Reuse Solution
Established in 1978, Windfield Alloy Inc. was focused on the refining and recovery of precious metals from electronic and manufacturing scrap. As our customer base grew, we realized that our customers’ recycling needs included materials that we did not handle and that our own operations were generating similar recyclable materials. In 1996, we expanded our operations into non-ferrous materials. Shortly afterwards, we added the Sierra T550 SL shear/baler/logger to our facilities, an equipment change that allowed us to process ferrous material as well. By partnering with Windfield Alloy Inc., customers are assured of receiving the highest return on their recyclable materials because we are a single source refining, recycling and reuse solution.

Commitment to the Environment
Windfield Alloy Inc. has ISO 14001 certification for electronics recycling, which demonstrates its commitment to both the environment and its customers. All of its processes are compliant with EPA, state, and local mandates. Copies of licenses and permits are available upon request. See our full Environmental Policy here.

Timely Process
Most scrap, depending on the complexity of the material, can be prepared, processed and settlement made based on your needs.

Scrap Metal Recycling

Scrap metal includes non-ferrous materials, like aluminum, copper, tin, and brass, and ferrous metals, like iron and steel. Both types of scrap metal are recycled at Windfield Alloy Inc.’s facilities. The recycling process for metal is similar to those of other materials and can be described through four stages of receiving, processing, shredding, and resale.

Non-Ferrous Recycling
Windfield Alloy Inc. recycles non-ferrous metals, which refers to scrap metal other than iron and steel. Examples of non-ferrous metal include aluminum, copper, lead, zinc, nickel, titanium, cobalt, and chromium. Non-ferrous scrap is recovered from a wide range of obsolete consumer, commercial, and industrial sources.

Ferrous Recycling
Windfield Alloy Inc.’s ferrous metal processing handles an array of scrap. Some of the ferrous materials processed include by-products from the engineering sector, automobiles, consumer appliances, tools and machinery, steel-related structures, and much more.

NON-FERROUS SCRAP METAL RECYCLING

Windfield Alloy Inc. recycles non-ferrous scrap metal, which refers to scrap metal other than iron and steel. Examples of non-ferrous metal include aluminum, copper, lead, zinc, nickel, titanium, cobalt, and chromium. Non-ferrous scrap is recovered from a wide range of obsolete consumer, commercial, and industrial sources.By establishing a niche with our chemical process and combining it with our non-ferrous recycling capabilities, we have grown to be one of the largest non-ferrous scrap metal recyclers in New England. We have a complete range of scrap metal processing machinery on-site including shears, balers, loggers, and sorting/separation equipment. The Sierra T550 SL is one such machine that we use in our non-ferrous scrap metal operations.

PRECIOUS METAL REFINING

Windfield Alloy Inc. employs state-of-the-art, specialized, and cost-effective methods for the recovery of gold, silver, platinum, palladium, and rhodium in order to ensure our customers obtain maximum return for their scrap material. We are certified as a B4 Level III Hazardous Waste Recycling refiner and our facilities maintain a zero-discharge status while upholding the highest safe-handling procedures.

RECYCLING PROCESS

Electronic equipment from around the nation is received at Windfield’s facilities. Upon receipt, all equipment is fully tracked, including tagging, labeling, and documentation. Our processes are ISO 14001:2004 certified.Electronics are sorted by equipment type and destination. Items that have intrinsic value are removed for reuse and remarketing. Items that do not have any inherit value are categorized as scrap and continue on to the dismantling phase, which is the start of the recycling process. Information about each item is recorded as part of our detailed reporting process.Various audits and tests are next performed on equipment. Our audits on electronics such as desktops, laptops, and supercomputers involve data erasure and destruction. These processes are all in compliance to strict government standards to ensure data is permanently removed and unrecoverable. With much of the IT equipment received, dismantling is required. We carefully take electronic equipment apart by hand to ensure pieces are easy to recycle.Materials can next be put through a shredding process using our Sweed Custom PC1200 AC Shredder. Shredding reduces material down to less than 0.5 inch pieces and further destroys any remaining data found on hard drives and storage devices. Our shredding process is advanced and ensures the highest possible return to customers through the segregation of materials. Unlike the process used by some competitors, magnetic separators are used to extract ferrous and non-ferrous metal from shredded materials to ensure more precise and efficient final sorting.

ASSET RECOVERY SERVICES

At Windfield, electronics that are received at our secure facilities are fully tracked. During our sorting and auditing process, any electronic asset with intrinsic value is a candidate for reuse and remarketing.Remarketing used equipment maximizes return on investment (ROI) because many electronics include subassemblies, components, and chips that are valuable commodities in various aftermarkets. As a full-service recycling and asset management company, we provide customers with on-site analysis in order to identify the value of these materials. We work closely with customers to determine the best asset recovery strategy that needs their unique business objectives.
