WVC&R is proud to service all of the single-family homes, businesses and multi-family complexes in the West Valley Community. In 2014, WVC&R made enhancements to our fleet of trucks and our collection services to help our customers in the West Valley Community become greener and cleaner.
These trucks are powered by CNG, a cleaner burning alternative fuel made entirely in the U.S., providing our community with cleaner air. The trucks also have a larger collection capacity to reduce the amount of trips to the landfill and recycling center. Both mileage and emissions will be reduced in comparison to the previous fleet of trucks.WVC&R also uses state-of-the-art automated split body side loader trucks that enable the collection of two separate materials, residential garbage and green waste, in a single pass. A toggle switch is used to control a flap that funnels the material into the appropriate compartment of the truck.
West Valley Collection & Recycling delivers all of the recyclables we collect from the Cities of Campbell, Monte Sereno, Saratoga and the Town of Los Gatos to a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) located in San Jose. The technology at the state of the art MRF efficiently sorts your mixed recyclable materials; this reduces the amount of sorting you have to do. A system of conveyor belts, screens, electromagnets and blasts of air separate paper from plastics, glass and other materials. Sorted bales and bins of materials are then taken to processing facilities before being sold to make new products.
The process of sorting your recyclables at the MRF is partially automated; employees do handle much of the material. Please remember do not put any hazardous or bathroom waste in your recycling cart, this includes hypodermic needles and diapers.

Household Water Based Paints
Household Universal Waste: household batteries, fluorescent tubes and bulbs and other mercury containing lamps, thermostats, mercury thermometers, electronic devices, electrical switches and relays, pilot light sensors, mercury gauges, mercury added novelties, mercury thermostats and non-empty aerosol cans that contained hazardous materials.
Household E-Waste: televisions and computer monitors, CPUs, laptop computers, external computer hard drives, computer keyboards, computer mice, computer printers, DVDs and VCRs.
The state will require businesses that generate 8 cubic yards or more of organic waste per week to establish organic waste recycling services. Organic waste is defined as green waste, food waste, pruning and landscape waste, food-soiled paper waste mixed in with food waste and nonhazardous wood waste.
Effective July 1, 2012, AB 341, the State of California’s Mandatory Commercial Recycling Program, requires commercial businesses that generate four cubic yards or more of solid waste per week and multi-family complexes with 5 units or more to recycle. Many WVC&R businesses and complexes are already in compliance with AB 341.
