About Yard

The Walter family has been in the industry for over two generations. On May 1, 1956, Jack and Shirley Walter started service to 250 homes in the Village of St. Anthony. A short time later, homes were being built in Roseville between Rice Street and Western, Snelling and Fairview. At this time, Jack and Shirley, with 4 of their 5 children, went door to door and signed up new customers. The company grew and so did the children. In January, 1983, Jack and Shirley retired. At that time, they had 33 trucks and 56 employees. The boys stayed in the industry with another company.George and Greg followed the footsteps in their parent’s company, Walters Disposal, with the purchase of 2 trucks on March 1, 1988. Walters Recycling and Refuse, Inc. was born. We have built the company into one of the top five largest independent waste companies in Minnesota and in the top 100 in the United States. Walters has gone from a customer base of 200 to 53,000 residential and 3,500 commercial, industrial and roll-off customers.

Our current fleet of vehicles are maintained at our state-of-the-art maintenance facility located in Blaine, MN. We operate 2 shifts to keep equipment in peak running order to meet and exceed the demands of our customers. As a family owned business, we strongly believe in a balance between work and family. This philosophy has contributed to Walters having a staff of ninety employees with one of the lowest turn-over rates in the industry. We have nine well-seasoned and experienced customer service staff employees. Our customer motto has been to have a “live” person available to answer the phones from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. We have intentionally avoided a computer activated phone system which requires a customer to wade through several levels of recordings to get at a live person and get the help they need.

Residents will now be required to contact Walters to order a roll-off dumpster for Construction Debris and Carpet. Premium Service will receive a discounted rate on roll-off dumpster fees. All fees associated with the collection of items will be subject to the rates listed on the fee schedule outlined in the city wide mailer and will be billed directly by Walters Recycling. In addition, the City of Blaine is implementing a new policy on the number of garbage carts residents may have. Starting January 1st only 3-96 gallon carts will be allowed with Premium Service. If you have more than 3-96 gallon carts, please leave the extra carts out on your first scheduled pickup day after January 1st. Walters will remove all but 3 of the carts.

2017 BLAINE YARD WASTE PROGRAM

Minnesota State Law prohibits putting yard waste into your garbage. By utilizing Walters’ Yard Waste Collection Service, your yard waste can be used to enrich gardens, improve soil conditions, be used as a soil additive, enhance soil texture, increase the ability of soil to absorb air and water, suppress weed growth, decrease erosion and reduce the need to apply chemical fertilizers.Regular mowing and leaving the clippings on your grass provides the roots with the needed shade and equals 1 chemical fertilizing per season. A lawn with a good build-up of grass clippings and mulched leaves also requires less water. Since most of us in residential areas water our lawns with city water, we could save money on our water bills as well as the cost of chemical fertilizer.

Walters offers an optional Yard Waste Collection Services for pricing or to sign up for this service please call our office at 763-780-8464. This service must be pre-paid in full before service is started. Your yard waste will be picked up on your regularly scheduled garbage collection day starting in April and ending the last week in November, weather permitting.Included in the annual cost, Walters will provide to you a 94 gallon cart which is similar to your garbage cart with the exception of a black lid for identification purposes to both you and our driver. In addition to our cart you may use compostable bags or various types of reusable bags. These items can be found at numerous hardware, grocery, and home improvement stores.Branches must be 4 feet or less in length and tied in bundles no more than four inches in diameter and weighing no more than 35 pounds.
