Verdeco Recycling, Inc. is a California-based company committed to producing high-quality recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) material for use in food packaging and other high-value applications. In the summer of 2012, Verdeco Recycling opened a brand new facility in South Gate, CA that has capacity to produce up to 50 million pounds annually of FDA-approved, food-grade recycled PET.Ever since the first PET bottle was produced, PET consumption has been steadily growing and billions of plastic containers are produced and used by customers annually. Proper disposition of post-consumer PET bottles is a big and growing concern. Simply throwing used containers into landfills or exporting them is not a viable option and would be a tremendous waste of natural resources. We strongly believe that responsible plastics recycling is an integral part of sustainable development and is an area where the U.S. should lead the world. We encourage use of recycled materials as a responsible way of saving natural resources and protecting our planet for future generations.
Recycled PET (RPET) can be used in many applications
PET is polyethylene terephthalate.
It's a plastic resin and the most common type of polyester. Two monomers—modified ethylene glycol and purified terephthalic acid—are combined to form the polymer called polyethylene terephthalate. PET was discovered and patented in England in 1941.
PET is the plastic labeled with the #1 code.
Many beverages, food items and other consumer products are delivered in bottles or packages made from PET. The #1 code is usually found on or near the bottom of the container.
PET makes good packages for food and non-food items.
Manufacturers like it because it's safe, strong, transparent and versatile. Customers choose it for its safety, light weight, resealability, shatter-resistance and recyclability. Up to 100% of a PET package can be made from recycled PET, and the material can be recycled again and again.
PET can be recycled into many new products.
Recycled PET (RPET) is a viable alternative to virgin PET and can be used in multiple applications. Over the last several years, RPET has been successfully used in food packaging applications. RPET produced by Verdeco Recycling and by other manufacturers can be found in beverage bottles and food packages on the shelves of stores and supermarkets all across America.
VERDECO RECYCLING, Inc. is processing post-consumer PET into high quality, FDA approved food-grade resin utilizing advanced PET-M™ recycling technology developed by PTP Group Ltd in Europe. Instead of using high pressure and vacuums for extended periods of time (which is typically done by PET recycling processes), PET-M™ process uses a Silane-based modifying agent to restore physical and mechanical properties of post-consumer PET. The PET-M™ technology minimizes energy consumption and waste resulting in the smallest carbon footprint among known PET recycling technologies. RPET resin manufactured by PTP Group has gained an excellent reputation on the European market due to its high quality and competitive price. The RPET resin is widely used for food packaging and other PET applications.
The RPET resin manufactured using PET-M™ technology can be used in any and all applications where virgin PET is utilized. Decontamination efficiency of the PET-M™ technology and the food contact safety of our RPET resin have been confirmed by surrogate contamination challenge tests. The material and the process have been cleared by the U.S. FDA for use in food-contact packaging (LNO #148).
PET-M™ technology incorporates the most recent innovations in the field of polymer processing, including use of the most advanced machinery from leading equipment manufacturers: MAS (Austria), Nordson Kreyenborg | Nordson BKG and Universal Dynamics (USA).
