About Yard

Our company provides end of life services for your used Computers and Electronics.
We recycle unusable networking gear, electronics and unwanted computers. We supply Asset Recovery services to businesses who have equipment with value left in them. We offer secure data destruction. Protecting your information is our top priority.
Tech Valley Recycling only uses Down Stream Vendors for computer scrap, that are R2 and ISO certified.
Tech Valley Recycling is a locally owned and operated company. When you recycle with us, you are helping create jobs and put the profits of our ownership and employees back into the Capital District economy. Are there other recyclers around the Albany, Schenectady, Glens Falls and Saratoga area? The answer is yes, but look closely because most of them are owned by corporations in other states or based out of other areas of Western NY. When you use these companies you are helping those economies. We provide an important service to our community and the environment and need our communities support.

Battery Recycling

While they may seem like a small piece of the recycling puzzle, batteries constitute a huge potential area of impact, especially as it relates to rechargeables. They contain heavy metals that could be dangerous if they end up in landfills (and our environment), and they have widespread recycling options.
Lead Acid Batteries are broken apart into plastic, lead, and sulfuric acid particles where they are then processed and reused if possible.
Nickel-Cadmium, Nickel Metal Hydride, and Lithium Ion Batteries are broken down into high temperature and low temperature metals. High temperature metals are re-heated to molten temperatures and then solidified into casts. Low temperature metals separate during the melting operation and are collected as metal-oxides.
Lithium Batteries are broken down into their contents. They are then submerged in caustic (basic not acidic) water. This solution neutralizes the metals and the scrap is then recycled. The solution is then filtered where carbon is recovered and pressed into sheets of carbon cake. The lithium is converted to a white powder which can be reused in new batteries. Mercury Batteries and heavy metals are recovered through a controlled temperature process. This is a type of battery which is slowly being phased out.

Computer and Electronic Recycling

Electronic waste accounts for 70 percent of the overall toxic waste currently found in landfills, according to Global Futures Foundation. In addition to valuable metals like aluminum, electronics often contain hazardous materials such as mercury. When placed in a landfill, even in small doses, these materials can contaminate soil as well as drinking water.

Asset and Surplus Recovery

Tech Valley Recycling offers a remarketing service to help you reclaim the maximum value from resalable equipment. To maximize value recovery for our clients, we have developed a large network for a wide array of equipment types.

Tech Valley Recycling takes the secure destruction of your information to our high priority.

Tech Valley Recycling uses two techniques for data destruction. The first is used in the cases of computer hard drives. We have proprietary hardware that uses a Department of Defense standard for data destruction, assuring that the data and information on your hard drive is fully destroyed.
The second technique is used in cases of CD-ROMs/DVDs, floppies, back-up tapes, document and hard drives (optional) and other media. We use a high powered shredder that will shred cut your media into small bits, making it impossible to recover any data.
Both of these services are optional and fees for these services may apply.
Would you leave your home or office unlocked when your not there. So why would you leave your data and personal/company information unsecured and gamble that it will be ok. Call Tech Valley Recycling to discuss your options in securely destroying your personal and company data.
