Recycling
Recycling pickup is every other week. Please see our pickup calendar for scheduled recycling days. You may use containers/bins of your choice to hold your recyclables. (We prefer smaller, liftable ones under 50lbs and not in plastic bags.) The side of the container facing the street should be marked "Recycling" or with a recycling symbol if using any type of garbage can.We appreciate your help in following the guidelines below to ensure your recycling actually gets recycled. If loads get contaminated with non-recyclables, food, and hazardous chemicals, then it could all get thrown out if deemed necessary by the recycling companies. Please be conscious recyclers for our environment.
The 3 main reasons listed by SCRAP are:
- Glass in the single stream process gets crushed and contaminates other recycled items, particularly paper and cardboard.
- Glass can't be recycled after going through the single-stream process because of additional contamination from ceramic, leaded glass, and other non-glass items.
- Removing glass from single-stream recycling reduces recycling costs and helps create a more self-sufficient program.
