The staff and management of Sustainable Management Corp. understand the importance of being a waste and recycling service provider to companies we call customers. We pride ourselves in listening, gathering information, evaluating the information, and then working with our customers to develop a solution for their “BACKDOOR PRODUCTS.” These products may consist of scrap metal, scrap plastic, waste paper, industrial and commercial waste, special waste, hazardous and non-hazardous filter cakes, sludges, muds, fines, powders, and residues. We work closely with the US-EPA as well as environmental regulators from other countries to assure our customer's material is handled in a compliant and responsible manner.

History

Michael Friedman, President of Sustainable Management Corp began in the scrap metal business in 1976 when he was hired by Colonial Metals Company (Columbia, PA) as a metals buyer. He studied under master sorter, John Smith learning how to sort copper, brass, bronze, and copper-nickel alloys in preparation to buy scrap from dealers, processors, steel mills, and military bases throughout North America. Mr. Friedman was later transferred to Chicago to sell brass, bronze, and aluminum ingot to Midwestern foundries.

• In 1984, Friedman Metals Brokerage Co. was founded and operated trading offices in York and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This company was among the first to actively ship scrap copper to Mainland China and was one of the organizers for Recycle China ’94, a trade exposition in Shanghai.

• Mr. Friedman joined Industrial Services of America in 2000 as Vice-President of Marketing and continued to trade with Asia and European customers.

• Mr. Friedman teamed with Mr. Joy Basu in 2003 to create Scrap and Waste, LLC specializing in metals, oxides, and catalyst recycling as well as waste management.

• Today, Sustainable Management Corp. brings over 34 years of global recycling experience to the benefit of our customers we call partners.

• Mr. Friedman served the industry as chairman of the Copper Committee for the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries and currently chairman of the Tin, Lead, and Zinc Committee. He is also a member of an advisory committee for the New York Commodity Exchange as well as a member of ASM.

Metals and oxide materials include copper, tin, nickel, moly, cobalt, vanadium, tungsten, zinc, and iron in the form of skimmings, grindings, fines, ashes, sweeps, dusts, drosses, slags, grindings, turnings, sludges, muds and catalysts.Plastics include films, solids, and purgings of HDPE, PE, LDPE, PP, PS, HIPS, Zytel nylon, acrylics, and PET. LDPE, PP, PS, HIPS, Zytel nylon, acrylics, and PET.

 Paper products include OCC (cardboard), ONP, hard whites, computer paper, mixed office paper (SOP), and specialty grades.Sustainable Management experts are available for educational seminars, training programs, and have experience as expert witnesses.
