Cardboard is a commodity and is recycled and reused to make more new products. Making new products releases greenhouse gases (GHG) during process. When making new products from recycled materials this process requires less energy thus reducing GHG emissions.Cardboard is a banned material at the landfill and must be recycled (check with your local landfill for a list of restricted, prohibited and banned items listing).
Super Save can offer a range of containers and service frequencies to suit your cardboard recycling needs. We have community cardboard and newspaper recycling depots at multiple sites in the BC Lower Mainland. Business and individuals who do not have access to cardboard recycling can bring their cardboard and newspaper to those sites at no charge.
Organics
Metro Vancouver has settled on a 70% waste reduction rate, all striving for ZERO waste. As of 2015 Organic material will be a banned item from GVRD landfills. Organic material can be diverted from the landfill and composted, creating a reusable material. The current diversion rates vary across the country and world; Vancouver currently diverts 55%. Canada’s diversion rate currently stands at 22%. Even with a goal of 70% diversion, Metro Vancouver will still produce over one million tonnes of garbage that will require disposal. We take our organic loads to designated composting facilities. We use compostable bags for our tote program. We also offer competitive pricing should you wish to purchase your own bags. While there are many items accepted as organic material, click here for a list of accepted organic material.
