History

Stanco Recycling is a scrap metal recycling operation now located at 14 Ruthman Drive in Dry Ridge, Kentucky, one and a half miles off Interstate 75 at the Dry Ridge exit. Formerly located in Newport, Kentucky for the past thirteen years, the continued growth of our business dictated a change to a larger facility with ready access to our markets and to our customers. Our new facility in Dry Ridge opened on June 1st, 2006.
Who are the "Steel Magnolias"? They are Sandra Kirschner Wyatt and Dori Bowman Schweitzer, owners of Stanco. Ms. Wyatt has had a long history in the scrap metal industry, training with her father, Alan G. Kirschner, who owned D. Kirschner & Son, Inc. in Newport, Kentucky, a scrap metal recycling business in operation for over 50 years, started by her grandfather, David Kirschner, with a horse and wagon. Once the largest scrap processing yard in the Tri State area, it has been on lease to the David J. Joseph Company since 1982. The Kirschner yard boasted the first shredder of its kind in the country, based on a Wemco water process. Ms. Schweitzer first worked for Alan Kirschner in the 80’s and has been a metal buyer since 1992.
