With only a pick-up truck, Texas-native Myer “Mike” Silverstein began to collect and sell scrap metal. While cruising through Webster City on the hunt for metal, he saw his opportunity. He bought some land and set-up shop, Webster City Iron & Metal Co.
Through the years, Mike acquires additional property. In 1951, he relocates the business to what is now Scrap Processors, Inc. (SPI), at 505 Seneca Street in Webster City, Iowa.
Mike’s sons, Ben and Kenny, join the team. Together they expand the company to include not just scrap yards, but auto parts and convenience stores, too — all located in Central Iowa.
