Sims Brothers Recycling is Central Ohio’s fastest growing recycling company. For 75 years we’ve been a family-owned, hands-on, people-minded and service-oriented business serving households, farms, businesses and industries.

Today we employ over 160 associates at our four recycling locations, and on-site at several of our major industrial customers.

Our size has its advantages. We process over 550 million pounds of recyclable material every year, making us a volume material supplier big enough to tackle almost any recycling opportunity.  Yet our family management style also allows nimble out-of-the box thinking and 24/7 customer support, so we can take a personal interest in your business.

Sims Brothers buys, transports, processes, brokers and sells all types of recyclable products including scrap iron and steel, nonferrous metals, cardboard, newspaper, high grade paper, plastics, and glass.

To transport these recyclable materials, Sims operates a fleet of semi tractors and trailers, roll off trucks and lugger trucks. We also work with independent hauling operators and with the railroad through our own railhead.

After preparing the recyclables to meet customer specifications, they are sold to mills throughout the Midwest. And then, the cycle begins again.

We are fortunate to have a dedicated team – more like family – of over 160 associates that are focused on making our customers happy by treating them with friendly, old-fashioned, neighborly respect. Whether it’s helping a homeowner unload their aluminum cans, making a tricky container pickup, or taking the time to accurately sort grades for the mills, treating other people like you’d like to be treated is the cornerstone of our company philosophy.

It’s like the lesson the Sims brothers, Don and Carl, taught us 75 years ago. When you put your heart into a family business, it’s in the right place.

We are so enthusiastic about health, safety and the environment that we are one of the few companies our size that employs a full-time Safety/Environmental Director.

A Culture of Safety.

It's a simple goal – that takes a lot of time and effort. Everyone, including customers, contractors, visitors and teammates, leaves our facilities in the same, or better, physical condition than when they arrived.

With the goal of zero accidents, we have an aggressive, proactive approach to safety. Our comprehensive health and safety procedures and policies exceed standards established by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). (See our Safety Policy Statement). The Sims Brothers safety program is successful thanks to a company-wide commitment to a strong, continuing safety culture.

Sims Brothers safety program includes:

• Comprehensive safety orientation and monthly safety training meetings.
• Regular safety walkthroughs of our
  facilities to maintain and improve safe working conditions.
• Providing each employee with the tools, support, and knowledge they need to perform their duties safely and consistently.
• Zero Tolerance policy with respect to
  the use of alcohol and drugs in the work place, reinforced by random drug dog inspections.

Every health and safety incident, no matter how large or small, is recorded within our comprehensive safety system. This allows us to analyze the possible causes of incidents and implement mitigation strategies to ensure that they are not repeated.

Luck is not the reason we have an enviable and excellent safety record for our industry. It's the culmination of something we work at every day.

Environmental Compliance

Sims Brothers Recycling is committed to operating in an environmentally responsible manner that protects human health, natural resources and the environment.

Our Safety/Environmental Director is a member of the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI)Safety & Environmental Council and our president, Gary Sims, serves on the Ohio EPA Solid Waste Management Advisory Council.

We go beyond compliance with the law to integrate sound environmental practices into our daily decisions and activities. Some examples include:

• Comprehensive refrigerant-recovery program.
• Dust submission practices.
• Forward-looking storm-water management.
• Radioactive material detection systems.
