Secure Recycling Services is a division of Kreider Services. In 2009, Secure Recycling Services (SRS) began its operation as a collector, recycler and refurbisher of used electronic equipment in the State of Illinois. The facility started as a program to give job opportunities to people with disabilities, generate new revenue for the agency while lessening Kreider’s dependence on State funding.

The last two decades have witnessed substantial growth in the use of electronic devices, changing the way people communicate, receive information and are entertained. The Consumer Electronics Association estimates that on average Americans now own approximately 24 electronics products per household!Electronic products are made from valuable resources and materials, including metal, plastic and glass, all of which require energy to mine and manufacture. Recycling or donating electronics conserves natural resources and avoids air and water pollution, as well as greenhouse gas emissions generated by manufacturing with virgin materials.
Of all waste thrown away every year by Americans, 30 percent of those items are paper, more than any other material. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), 69 million tons of paper and paperboard was used in 2012, which equates to 442 pounds of paper for every man, woman and child in the United States that year.On the positive side, 44 million tons of paper and paperboard were recovered in 2012 for a recycling rate of 65 percent, according to EPA statistics. To give an idea of the greenhouse gas benefits associated with the recovery of the 44 million tons of paper and paperboard is equivalent to taking 27 million cars off the road per year!
Secure Recycling Services partners with other recycling companies and large mill operations in returning paper and cardboard material back to market for re-use. The following items are the common types of paper recycled by Secure Recycling Services
In 2012, the EPA reported that 22.4 million tons of metal (steel, aluminum, and other nonferrous metals) were generated in the United States, with 7.62 million tons (or 34.0%) being recovered. To give an idea of the greenhouse gas benefits associated with the recovery of the 7.62 million tons of metals is equivalent to taking 4.3 million cars off the road per year!
Currently, Secure Recycling Services (SRS) accepts aluminum, brass, copper, stainless steel, steel and other metals for recycling. The recycling center just purchased new equipment to granulate and separate copper from plastic insulation. SRS is able to purchase metal and aluminum. If a person or business wishes to donate metal product, SRS will accept it and a donation receipt will be provided by the resource development department of Kreider Services. That receipt can be used for tax purposes by either the person or business that donates this product for recycling.
