Founded as a small, one-man local cleanout operation in the 1960's, we have grown into an innovative waste recycling facility with a staff largely comprised of employees from the local community. Our 7 acre recovery compound capable of handling over 1500 tons a day of waste and materials. In our more than 40 years of experience, we have grown by adapting and innovating. Long before the world was talking about "green" technology, we pioneered the recovery and recycling of waste and materials. As our business and the needs of our customers grew, we invented products and techniques to meet those needs. PHILADELPHIA'S ONLY COMPREHENSIVE WASTE RECYCLING & RECOVERY FACILITY

Richard S. Burns is the Delaware Valley's only complete recycling and waste recovery facility. Our origins date to the 1960s and, since the mid 1980's we've been serving the Greater Philadelphia region's recycling needs. We are pioneers in the field of waste recycling and recovery and were advocates of a "greener" economy long before the term was in use.Our experience, size and reasonable pricing provide immediate benefits to our customers. We offer:

• A hauling service with a fleet of vehicles ready to remove waste from your site quickly. Our response time is almost always "same day" and, often, we can get to your site within one or two hours of your call. If you prefer to use your own hauling service, our recycling facility is still ready to receive, recover or recycle your materials and waste from the hauler of your choosing.
• A dumpster service, offering you the ability to rent the container or dumpster in a size and configuration appropriate to your needs.
• A fully-permitted facility which can receive and recycle any type of non-hazardous waste.
• A clean and efficient 10 acre facility in Philadelphia, capable of handling 1500 tons/day.
• Two LEED certified project managers on staff, allowing you to fulfill LEED requirements for materials recovery.

Dumpster Service

Burns expertly provides two primary ways to recover and recycle the waste from your job site:

• You can bring it to our facility yourself.
• Let us deliver one or more dumpsters to your job site.

Burns offers an array of containers and dumpsters in 10, 20 & 30 cubic yard sizes. We can even fulfill unique job requirements, whether you have extraordinary volume needs or difficult site conditions. We also have a selection of smaller containers on dollies, which allow for the use of containers in very tight conditions, where a standard dumpster might not be viable. Permitting Requirements

No matter what container service you choose, you must prep your site appropriately and comply with permitting requirements.The City of Philadelphia requires the property owner to have an Equipment Placement application, which enables the holder to place the container on the street or pavement. This permit is necessary because containers will often block the public right-of-way. The property owner is also responsible for keeping the dumpster covered when not in use, keeping the surrounding area clean and remedying odor issues.

Site Selection and Preparation

Wood planks must be placed under the wheel of the container to prevent damage to driveway or paved surfaces. Placing containers on grass or soft surfaces will cause damage to those surfaces. As the customer, you are ultimately responsible for the placement and removal of the dumpster and any damage incurred during the normal scope of work.
