You know that the landfill isn't the best place for most of what you throw away, but you're unsure what your other options are. You have questions about what products you can and can't recycle. You have stuff you want to get rid of, but you want to know how do it responsibly. Where can you find answers to these questions and more? RecycleSpot.org. RecycleSpot.org is Kansas City Metro Area’s one-stop spot for recycling, reuse and waste reduction information. RecycleSpot.org connects you to hundreds of area services and providers and gives you information on what’s available in your community.RecycleSpot.org was developed by the MARC Solid Waste Management District (MARC SWMD) and the Mid-America Regional Council. It is partially funded by grants from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. Information in RecycleSpot is collected and maintained by the MARC SWMD staff. Services included are for the nine-county area that MARC serves in the Kansas City region.
Recycling isn’t a new idea. In fact, many of us have been recycling for decades. We’re making a difference, but it’s not enough. The average person in the Kansas City metro still throws out about 7 pounds of waste every day. And when 41 percent of waste in the landfill is paper, we know we can do better. We just need to know how, and start making those changes. Every small step makes a huge difference, and there are more opportunities to recycle more products today than ever before.
Curbside
Many community or private waste management companies pick up materials at the curbs and process them elsewhere.
Drop-off
Some people don't have access to curbside services, and there are some items that can't be left at the curb or need special handling, such as glass or hazardous household chemicals. Many cities or counties make it easy for you to drop off materials at designated collection sites.
