Recycle Here! was formed in 2005 to address the need for recycling options in the City of Detroit. What began as a grassroots, neighborhood, recycling event has evolved into a city-wide, fully-funded, neighborhood recycling program.
MAIN DROP OFF LOCATION
Our drop off facility is located at 1331 Holden Ave in the New Center area. We are open every Monday from 10am until 6pm, Wednesday from 10am until 6pm and Saturday from 9am until 3pm. Our friendly and informed staff are always available to guide and assist you through your drop off experience.
PICK UP SERVICE
In addition to our drop off services, Recycle Here! offers pick up services for a variety of loft/condo communities and businesses throughout Detroit. If you are interested in having this service added to your business or community please contact us and we will visit your location and help you develop a program that works for you.
SCHOOL RECYCLING EDUCATION PROGRAM
Recycle Here! is working with the Detroit Public Schools recycling paper, plastic, metal, light-bulbs, Styrofoam and batteries, which is integrated into the science class curriculum. Recycle Here! works with each school’s science teacher to identify on-site locations that will be used by the students to separate and store collected recyclables until the scheduled monthly pickup. Each participating science class is encouraged to create a “Green Team” which will collect and weigh their recyclables. Recycle Here! will supply schools with bins, assembly kickoff, poster, labels and facility tour to each participating school.
The mission of the Greater Detroit Resource Recovery Authority (GDRRA) is to provide efficient, environmentally responsible waste disposal service(s) to the residential, commercial, industrial sectors of Detroit. This includes the acquisition, construction, improvement, enlargement, extension and operation of solid waste disposal facilities.
The Authority’s activities encompass one or more parts of a total waste management system (post collection) including transportation, recoverable materials marketing (recycling), generation and sale of waste derived fuel energy products (steam and electricity), and disposal. The Authority is a governmental unit, separate from the City of Detroit.
