Recology Auburn Placer provides residential and commercial garbage service, debris box service and recycling to residents and businesses in the cities of Rocklin, Auburn, Town of Loomis and in Unincorporated Placer County. The company processes more than 100,000 tons of garbage and recyclable material annually. Recology Auburn Placer also offers spring clean-up day for residents, and provides commercial cardboard recycling and newspaper drop-off.

Recology Auburn Placer office, maintenance shop, transfer station and recycling buyback center are located in Auburn. The company also operates two other transfer stations in Placer County and is responsible for the post-closure of the closed Auburn landfill.

RULES FOR RESIDENTIAL SERVICE

Recology Auburn Placer recommends that refuse should be at curbside the night before your collection day.

Refuse must be at curbside by 5:00 a.m. on your collection day. Refuse above the level of your container will be collected and additional charges will apply.

Hazardous waste may not be disposed of in the trash.

Something is hazardous if it can catch fire, react or explode when mixed with other substances, or if it is toxic. Some examples are: left over paint, solvents, used oil, car batteries, poisons, ammunition, and some cleaners. Effective February 9, 2006 hazardous waste definitions were expanded to include electronic and universal wastes including, but not limited to, televisions and computer monitors; computer peripherals; telephones; answering machines; video and audio record and play equipment; calculators; fluorescent and high intensity discharge light tubes, bulbs and lamps; alkaline and rechargeable batteries. Liquids are also not allowed in the trash.

Garbage Cans:

If you provide your own cans, they must be no larger than 30-33 gallons, weigh no more than 50 pounds when full and have handles and tight fitting lids. Toters will be provided by Recology Auburn Placer. These 90 gallon toters are Recology Auburn Placer property and are provided free of charge. However, the 90 gallon toter represents an increased level of service and you will be charged at the rate determined for toter service. Should the toter be damaged by you, a replacement fee will be charged to your account.

Household Hazardous Waste

Household hazardous waste may not be disposed of in the trash!Something is hazardous if it can catch fire, react, or explode when mixed with other substances or if it is toxic. Recology Auburn Placer does not accept household hazardous waste.

Material Recovery Facility

The Western Placer Waste Management Authority or WPWMA is a regional agency that provides recycling and refuse disposal services to the commercial and residential sectors of Auburn, Lincoln, Loomis, Rocklin, Roseville, and Unincorporated Placer County.

The WPWMA owns and operates a materials recovery facility (MRF) which is designed to recover recyclable materials (including newspaper, cardboard, metals, glass, plastics, green waste, and wood waste) from the trash to reduce the amount of material going to the landfill. The MRF is a key element in the jurisdiction's efforts to comply with the state law to divert 50% of its waste from landfills.

Electronic / Universal Waste

In February, 2006, the State of California prohibited the disposing of electronic waste, fluorescent tubes, consumer batteries and mercury thermostats into the trash. Known as "Universal Waste", these wastes are health and environmental hazards if they are improperly disposed of. 

Examples of prohibited wastes:

• Electronic Waste - Computers, computer peripherals, telephones, answering machines, radios, stereo equipment, tape players/recorders, phonographs, VCRs, CD players/recorders, calculators, televisions, and microwave ovens.

• Mercury Containing Waste - Fluorescent tubes, high-intensity lights, sodium vapor lamps and metal halide lamps.

• Consumer Batteries - Including carbon-zinc and alkaline, rechargeable, NiCad, lithium, and mercury button batteries. This includes AA, AAA, C, and D batteries.
