Learn more about our center’s history by contacting us today! We are your Community Recycling Center.Looking for a place to drop off ALL your recyclables? PRo Kansas Recycling is the solution! We are a non-profit organization dedicated to taking the largest variety of items to be recycled. We offer this free recycling service to our community, AND we offer environmental education to schools and other groups, plus there are volunteer opportunities for many.
OUR MISSION:
Increase Recycling Awareness, Education and Participation in the Wichita Area.
Our Center is housed in one of three buildings previously owned by the Kice Manufacturing Company. In 2004, the City of Wichita purchased all three of the Kice buildings to make way for the Central Railroad Corridor project. The two buildings on the east side of the tracks have already been torn down. While our future is never definite, we have grown to live with that uncertainty and remain optimistic that we will stay at our current location for at least another few years.Like all commodities, the price we receive for the things that we collect fluctuates. We are somewhat protected from large price swings because we collect a wide range of plastic, paper, and other products. Most of our plastics are sold through a broker. About half of our paper products are sold directly to mills.
In 2007 we received a $45,000 grant from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment to purchase a high capacity horizontal baler. The new baler allows us to process the increased level of collections without the need to hire an additional employee.Individual donations to PRo Kansas are always appreciated and ARE tax deductible. Over the years we have accepted several donations made “in memory of” an individual. If you are interested in learning more about donating to our organization our treasurer (donations@recyclewichita.org) can answer any questions that you might have.
The Volunteer Coordinator schedules all volunteers except for the court-ordered community service workers. If you are fulfilling a court-ordered requirement, there are special provisions in place at the center that must be adhered to. You will be reporting to the Operations Director and must schedule a time through him, call (316) 269-1359 or email operations@prokansasrecycling.org.If possible, please review our PowerPoint Training Presentation before coming to the Center at your assigned time.Thank you for your interest in recycling.
