Why Recycle?

At Portland Battery Recycling, we’re serious about guarding the environment. Portland Battery Recycling does all it can to be a good neighbor and to keep the environment the way we found it. Portland Battery Recycling takes great care in handling the disposal of lead-acid batteries, which is strictly regulated by federal and state legislation, in an environmentally friendly way. We return spent batteries to EPA-approved smelters where the lead and plastic are recycled to make new batteries and products.

Environmental Risks

The U.S. EPA estimates that more than 350 million rechargeable batteries, made of heavy metals like nickel cadmium, lithium ion, mercury, nickel metal hydride and lead acid, are bought each year in the United States. If they are not properly managed, these elements can:

  • Pollute the lakes and streams
  • Cause issues at solid waste landfills
  • Bring lead and acid into the environment and water
  • Expose corrosive acids

Regardless of the season, your car battery may require attention.
While a lot of automotive, commercial, and marine/RV batteries are considered maintenance-free products under normal operating conditions, extreme changes in temperature may require your battery be checked more frequently to make sure you’re not left stranded.
