This is because of how the Windows operating system saves and deletes files.

• Files that are saved on your computer store the name of the file in a file allocation table. The actual data that makes up the file is saved directly on the computer's hard drive.
• Deleted files removes the file reference from the file allocation table, but the data remains on the hard drive. The deleted file space occupied by the data is marked as free space and is overwritten by new saved files. But until another file's data is saved over it, the data remains on the hard drive and can be recovered.
