At Modern Corporation, we take pride in our commitment to the environment and educating the community about proper waste management. We are dedicated to educating our community for a better tomorrow. As a locally owned and operated business, we are committed to the environment by utilizing innovative green power and building partnerships with local businesses.
In 1964, Steve Washuta incorporated Modern Disposal Services as a way to expand his seasonal paving company into a business that could provide a steady source of income for his family. As the region’s industrial base grew, Mr. Washuta’s dedication and strong work ethic helped his new business develop from a humble two-truck operation in Western New York into the 20th largest waste removal company in the United States.
Today, Modern is still a privately owned waste removal company. We employ over 500 hundred people in Western New York, as well as Southern Ontario, Canada.Modern is committed to the most innovative and responsible methods of materials management and recycling. It’s simple – we accept nothing less.We further our commitment by providing exceptional customer service & giving back to the communities we serve. We’re all in this together–to sustain, recycle and reuse the planet’s limited resources. As your local waste removal company, we take that responsibility seriously.
Sustainability and Solid Waste Disposal in WNY
Sustainability is often defined as meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Dictionaries define it as maintaining balance within a system and in business it is often discussed as the “triple bottom line” of people, planet and profit. For Modern, all these definitions are important. Sustainability for us means making business decisions with a long-term perspective, recognizing the value of “waste” as a resource, and maintaining our commitment to the environment. Our associates live and work in the communities we serve and we are dedicated to preserving the long-term environmental and economic health of those communities when it comes to solid waste disposal in WNY.
