The mission of Canyonlands Community Recycling (CCR) is to enhance sustainability by empowering the Moab community to reduce, reuse, and recycle. We invite you to bring the recycling center your cans, bottles, paper, cardboard, plastic & newspapers. Lots of other materials can be recycled in Moab as well... Don't miss a chance to reduce your waste.
On a cold day in January 1991, the board of the newly formed nonprofit organization Canyonlands Community Recycling (CCR) opened the gates to Moab's recycling center and received the first of what would be millions and millions of pounds of recyclable materials. This brave group brought recycling to life and has kept it alive all these years.CCR focused on operating and managing the recycling center until July 1, 2010, when CCR transferred management and operation of the center to the Grand County Solid Waste Special Service District #1 (the District). This transfer was intended to benefit both entities, by allowing the District to streamline its waste reduction and management efforts and CCR to focus its attention on encouraging lower rates of consumption, higher rates of recycling, and greater reuse of existing resources.
CCR's new mission is to enhance sustainability by empowering the Moab community to reduce, reuse, and recycle. To do so, CCR has embarked on a new education and outreach program, one goal of which is to divert at least 15% of the community's waste from our landfills by 2015.
As a non-profit corporation, CCR's main focus is to provide public outreach and education concerning the many benefits of waste reduction, reuse and recycling. This work is supported by both monetary and in-kind donations from individuals, businesses and foundations. Read more...
Where Does It Go?
The recycle center sells recyclables to different companies depending on who is offering the best price at any given time. Visit the links in the right sidebar to view basic information about whom your recycling is sold to, and where it goes from there. CCR collected this information from the companies listed, so it reflects their own descriptions of what happens to recyclables once they acquire them.
