Serving Sioux Falls and the upper Midwest since 1999, we recycle a wide variety of materials from residential and commercial generators. Our goal is to continue driving the recycling rate up through education and innovation.
The fastest growing trend in recycling is mixing recyclables together instead of separating them. This is called Single Stream Recycling. Communities that switch to single stream recycling see increases in participation and volume by over 25%. By eliminating sorting, recycling becomes easier and increases participation and recovery rates. Single Stream also reduces collection costs because haulers can use single compartment trucks that can be compacted as opposed to specialized multi-compartment vehicles that are more costly to operate. Over time this greatly reduces the energy required to collect the material.
Recycling at work can contribute to your corporate sustainability goals and save you money, but before you start, it’s important to know the difference between recycling at home and recycling in the workplace.Residential recycling typically consists of normal single stream items that can all go in one bin, but commercial recycling varies greatly from one organization to the next. From banks, to manufacturing plants, to hospital clinics, each organization generates different volumes and materials, which require different types of recycling programs.
Identify Items To Recycle.
Did you know Sioux Falls has a mandatory recycling ordinance that bans recyclable material from the landfill? This mandate helps lengthen the life of the Sioux Falls Regional Sanitary Landfill and saves residents money on waste disposal costs.
Single stream makes recycling easy…
In 2013, single stream recycling was accepted city-wide, meaning all waste haulers in Sioux Falls now offer single stream collection to residential homes and participation is growing!Since starting single stream in 2007, Millennium has almost doubled the amount we recycle. Every year, we recycle over 100 Million Pounds of material. That’s equal to about 18.5 elephants every day!
