Maryland Scrap Tire Report

• Maryland law requires that businesses which generate scrap tires register with the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) and file semiannual scrap tire reports with MDE.
• Every 6 months MDE automatically mails report forms to all registered scrap tire generators. A sample report form is shown to the left.
• Metalpro automatically supplies our customers with the report data. Metalpro customers simply match up Metalpro's report data with the MDE Report form and forward the report to MDE.

TRANSPORTATION

Metalpro's truck picks up the used filters on an automatic schedule. The container or drum(s) is emptied at the customer's site into Metalpro's truck and the empty container or drum(s) is returned to the customer to be refilled. A Metalpro Recycling Receipt is used to document the shipment. The filters are transported to Metalpro's processing center in Springfield, Virginia.

PROCESSING

Metalpro's processing facility is a 15,000 square foot, entirely weatherproof building with concrete floors and block walls. There are no floor drains. All used filter handling, storage and processing is done inside the building.

The used filters are processed by compacting (bailing) the filters to extract used oil and create scrap metal bricks. Scrap metal bricks are sent to steel mills to be melted down and made into new steel products. Used oil is recycled by major used oil companies. Non-recyclable by-products are burned for energy recovery at the Covanta Waste to Energy Facility in Fairfax, Virginia.
