In 2009 owner Tracy Smith's husband, David Smith, got laid off from Republic Waste in Massillon three days before he was supposed to go on family leave to help Tracy with recovery from a scheduled C-section for the birth of their son. With a new baby and two older kids, we had to do something, sitting around feeling sorry for ourselves was not an option. So David went back to school for a business degree. The saying is when one door shuts another one opens. When at stores, David would run into the customers that he serviced on his old route. They would give compliments about his performance. They stated how much they miss him, and one mentioned that his service was “above and beyond.” He always would go the extra mile by doing things such as running up to get the trash for elderly or for handicap customers that couldn’t take their trash to the curb. Most couldn’t afford to pay for back door service. David is known for going up the driveway and getting trash for people that are at work and simply forgot to put out their trash. So in this case, a new door opened and Meta Waste started in 2010 with just two pickup trucks. Now with garbage trucks and hundreds of customers, looking back David being laid off was a good thing that happened to us. David finished up his business degree in 2012.
Our goal is to expand our small business and provide for our family through quality service for our customers, and eventually creating jobs in Stark County.
