The grounds of Mecca Auto Salvage & Recycling, Inc. are built in place of the Clay City Pipe Company which shut down in the 1960's. Max McKinney bought the grounds in 1976 and started Mecca Auto Salvage in 1977; he ran it with two employees until 1991. McKinney then sold it to Aaron Frink, a local building contractor. Frink ran the company with five employees until he shut it down in 1996. Frink reopened Mecca Auto Salvage in March of 2000. This November marks our fifth year of recycling scrap metal, with the additions of our seventy foot scale and our non-ferrous pole barn, since the opening of the recycling. Mecca Auto Salvage became a corporation in January of 2012 and is now known as Mecca Auto Salvage & Recycling, Inc. What started as a small salvage yard with just one employee, has grown to employ over 40 people.
