About Yard

Marv’s Sanitary Service is locally owned and operated, serving the communities of Brandon, Corson, Rowena, Valley Springs and all of Minnehaha County East of 478th Ave and South of 258th Ave. We are a multi-generational company committed to a high level of service and common sense solutions for the everyday challenges of recycling and waste disposal. From taking outstanding care of our customers and improving recycling awareness, to providing employment opportunities and running an efficient truck fleet, we are dedicated to providing outstanding service at all levels of our operations.

Marv and Leona Veldkamp started Marv’s Sanitary Service in 1971. They built the company into a reputable and reliable trash and recycling business. A hallmark of the company is personal service, which for many years was provided to each customer by Marv himself. In 2001, Marv and Leona’s daughter and son-in-law, Tom and Lori Wilford, joined the business which had grown and by then included several employees. Tom now manages the business for Marv and Leona. The focus on personal service is carried on by Tom and all the employees whether on the route or in the office. Our goal is to provide exceptional service to the area communities, residents and businesses that have placed their trust in us. We are dedicated to consistently putting our customers first. We are mindful of having the most cost-effective disposal and recycling solutions for our customers while maintaining the high quality service.

For over 40 years, Marv’s Sanitary Service  has been earning the trust of their customers throughout the area. Over these last 4 decades we've tried to be true to very basic principles that we firmly believe in: trust, commitment, communication – and above all else – integrity. We specialize in the collection and transportation of waste and recyclables using clean and efficient methods. Our goal is seamless, efficient service for our customers.  We work with the Sioux Falls Regional Sanitary Landfill and recycling facilities to ensure the proper handling of waste and to maximize recycling participation. Our service area is Brandon, Corson, Rowena, Valley Springs and all of Minnehaha County east of 478th Ave. and south of 258th Ave.  For service in Sioux Falls, we recommend contacting Perry Schempp at Marv's Sanitary of Sioux Falls.

(Click here for Marv's Recycling Calendar) Recycling is included in your monthly charge, and we urge you to read the Single Stream Recycling Guide, and make recycling part of your routine.

Sioux Falls Landfill ordinance prohibits us from taking trash with visible required recyclables. If you use your own containers be sure they have a tightly fitted lid (Landfill ordinance). If you choose to rent our 96 gallon tip cart for your recyclables, remember that normal wear and tear is expected but you will be liable for damage to the cart resulting from misuse or from paint, chemicals or heat/fire, etc.If your recycling container is not out in time for collection, it can either be picked up during the following scheduled collection or you may request a special pick-up, for an additional fee.

Additional Recycling Notes:

RESIDENTIAL SERVICE

Marv’s Sanitary Service provides residential service within the city limits of Brandon, Corson, Valley Springs and Rowena, plus all of Minnehaha County East of 478th Ave and South of 258th Ave.Our household service allows you to choose a 35gal trash cart for 3 kitchen bags a week or a 64gal trash cart for 5-7 kitchen bags a week, or a 96gal for 8 - 10 kitchen bags a week. This equates to 1,2, or 3 32gal cans if you choose to use your own cans. (Please have lids on cans, 40# limit per can or bag). Any trash over the amount you have chosen is $2.00 a can or $1.00 a bag, payable with stickers. Three 13 gallon bags are also equal to 1 can and are $1.00 each if extra and heavy. Extra bags & trash without stickers will be taken and the appropriate amount will be removed from a $10.00 sheet of stickers. The remainder of that sheet will be left for you & your account will be billed $10.00 for stickers. If you need stickers, leave a note or call the office at 582-6766, and we will get them to you. Because of wind and Landfill ordinance, PLEASE DO NOT put trash directly into cans or carts without containing it in bags.

ELECTRONICS

Effective May 4, 2004, a City of Sioux Falls ordinance banned electronics from the Sioux Falls Regional Sanitary Landfill because they often contain amounts of heavy metals and harmful chemicals, such as lead and cadmium, which can compromise the effectiveness of landfill liners. Additionally, various components of electronics can be reused in newer technologies or recycled.

PAINT AND CHEMICALS

Empty paint cans or those with completely hardened paint may be placed in with your regular garbage. Remove the lid first. Otherwise, paint and hazardous waste need to be taken to the Sioux Falls Hazardous Waste facility.

NEEDLE DISPOSAL

Needles or syringes that are not properly disposed of can be a serious health hazard. Help prevent injuries by properly disposing of needles and syringes in a puncture resistant container. The Home Healthcare Needle Disposal Program provides free needle/sharps disposal containers through participating pharmacies. DO NOT EVER put sharps or other healthcare related equipment into your recycling container. For more information concerning needle disposal click this link: Sioux Falls Sharps Disposal Program.
