Brass is a copper base alloy that is distinguished by its color. There are dozens of different brass alloys each with its own chemical composition. Here at Kurtz Metals we simplify the process by dividing them into two main categories: Red Brass and Yellow Brass.
Red Brass which has a reddish color to it, is always a casting that does not have a magnetic pull to it. The copper content averages around 85%. Examples of red brass would be brass valves with out handles, gears or fittings.
Yellow Brass which has a yellow color to it, can also be a casting, or could be in gear form with a magnetic pull. The average copper content in yellow brass is around 66%. Examples of yellow brass are plumbing fixtures and ornamental brass.
Copper is a metal that has diverse applications and has been used for thousands of years. It is also 100% recyclable.#1 copper tubing is 1/16 inch thick and has no paint, solder, or other contaminants or attachments that would affect the recovery.#2 copper tubing may contain paint, solder, or other contaminants with a lower recovery rate
