Brass

What, exactly, is brass and why is it recyclable? Brass is defined as a buttery yellow alloy of zinc and copper. It is used in many different types of plumbing fixtures, home décor, even sprinkler heads. Weapons casings and cartridges are sometimes made of brass, along with pipes and many automobile and truck radiators. Its price depends on the amount of brass recovered and the levels of contamination.

Copper

What is copper? Copper is a precious, non-ferrous material of reddish-brown color. This metal is in the gold and silver family with very similar properties, and it has been used for many years by different cultures.

Radiators

Why are radiators considered scrap metal? Some radiators that are iron-free (nonferrous) contain a copper and brass mixture. Some of this mixture can be as much as seventy percent copper, three percent iron, ten percent zinc, and three percent lead.
