Since 1995, J&K Salvage has worked to become York County’s premier recycler of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Based out of York, PA we operate York County’s only shredding facility which allows us to provide competitive pricing to our customers. Our shredder can recycle 300 automobiles daily and up to 5,000 tons of material monthly. We offer custom tailored solutions to your scrap metal recycling needs with our extensive marketplace knowledge. Our goal is to establish and maintain long term relationships with businesses in our community. The recycled metal processed here helps to stimulate the economy by providing jobs for local residents and to supply reusable resources for both domestic and international metal manufacturers.

We serve Adams, Baltimore, Dauphin, Franklin, Lancaster, and York counties. Our J&K Salvage facility has the right equipment to handle and process your scrap metal soon after its arrival. Forklifts, front end and hydramac skid steer loaders are used to transport your scrap to our shredder. For long or difficult items, a full complement of shears, saws, and bailers enable us to efficiently handle all of your ferrous or non-ferrous needs. J&K Salvage has a large maintenance shop to maintain the collection fleet and all other equipment necessary for the processing of scrap metal. Bailed scrap can be easily inventoried or loaded onto a trailer for shipment to various primary or secondary smelting operations.

J&K Salvage’s largest, most productive and costly piece of equipment is the shredder. It produces the prime commodity in the recycling steel market, turning an automobile into fist sized pieces of scrap in less than a minute. White goods such as stoves, washers, dryers, refrigerators and freezers (Freon removed), sheet metal, and other lightweight metal objects are shredded with cars. The shredder processes this material and extracts ferrous (magnetic) metal. In addition, non-ferrous or non-magnetic metals such as copper, aluminum, brass, and zinc are also recovered. Another byproduct of the shredding process is fluff that contains the rubber, upholstery, stuffing, plastics, and other non-recyclable components. This material is routed for further processing by an eddy current machine that extracts the remaining metals. Confidential and security sensitive bulky items from various governments and agencies are also shredded.

J&K Salvage also plays a role as an innovator and investor, continually seeking out and investigating new opportunities in the recycling industry. J&K utilizes an area close to 30 acres in size. The area is almost completely covered in concrete or black top. This is known as Impervious surfaces(1) With this comes storm water run off that needs to be addressed and at J&K we have proactively placed grease and oil separators(2) at all storm water outfalls and we monitor our water discharge monthly to ensure our discharge is within the requirements set forth from the government. As in best management practices. We have two street sweepers that we use for keeping the area clean and free of debris that could create a problem with sediment run off and flat tires. we also have these to rent for parking lot clean ups or any large clean up.
