Judy Lee, the CEO of JC Horizon, is a US citizen from Taiwan. After graduating from Cal State LA, she attained over 30 years of experience, working in the waste materials and raw material export business. In the early l980’s, she became a pioneer in bringing US waste paper to the paper industry in China. She was the Vice President of V&C Company for about 20 years (V&C Company has a long history of being a famous waste paper dealer in the U.S.). She pioneered the introduction of waste paper to China's paper making industry in the early 80s, opening a new page to China for making paper from waste paper instead of virgin fiber. She has a very good reputation in this field both in the U.S. and in China. She has received the honor greeting by Mr. Jiang Zemin, President of the People's Republic of China in 1993.

What Is Paper Recycling?

That product is sold and transported to paper mills worldwide for reprocessing and production into new packaging, office paper, tissue, newsprint, and a multitude of other paper products.While all countries must strive to improve their procedures, there are some encouraging paper recycling facts: Forty-five percent (45%) of the world’s total paper production is produced using recovered paper and board, also known as recovered fiber or paper. In the U.S., roughly 80% of America’s paper mills rely on paper recycling to make some or all of their products. One hundred and forty mills use only recovered paper to manufacture new products.

The United States recovered 51.8 million tons of paper in 2008. Of this total, 57.4% of the paper was consumed in the U.S. (enough paper to fill more than 100 Empire State Buildings). 20.1million tons of recovered paper was exported in 2008, including 2.8 million tons of printed news, 6.3 million tons of corrugated cardboard, 7.2 million tons of mixed paper, 600,000 tons of hi-grade paper, 1.3 million tons of pulp subs, and 1.7 million tons of other forms of recovered paper.

Due to modern paper recycling procedures, more than 70% of the corrugated containers and newspapers consumed are recovered. Each percentage point of recovery represents roughly 1 million tons of fiber – enough fiber to fill 14,000 railroad cars.

Paper recycling presents significant environmental and energy benefits. • Recycling 1 ton of plastic saves 7.4 cubic yards of landfill space.
• During Keep America Beautiful’s 2008 Great American Cleanup, volunteers recovered and recycled 189,000,000 PET (plastic) bottles that littered highways, waterways and parks.*

About Iron & Steel

The element iron (Fe) is one of the most abundant on earth, but it does not occur in nature in useful metallic form. Metallic iron, from which steel is derived, must be extracted from iron ore. By definition, steel is a  combination of iron with a small amount of carbon.  Iron and steel comprise about 95 percent of all the tonnage of metal produced annually in the United States and the world. According to the USGS, the nationÂ’s iron and steel industry and ferrous foundries produced goods in 2007 that were valued at about $150 billion. The industry consisted of about 57 companies that produced raw steel at about 116 plants, with combined production capability of about 113 million tons.

Non-ferrous Metals

Aluminum, copper, lead, zinc, nickel, titanium, cobalt, chromium and precious metals are the most commonly used non-ferrous metals. Millions of tones of nonferrous scrap are recovered annually and used by smelters, refiners, ingot makers, foundries, and other manufacturers in the U.S. and in more than 90 countries worldwide. According to ISRI, more than 9 million metric tons of nonferrous scrap was processed in the U.S. last year from a wide array of consumer, commercial and industrial sources. In terms of volume, ISRI estimates that nonferrous scrap made up less than 10% of the total quantity of material recycled in the U.S. last year, while by value, cheap replica watches nonferrous metal scrap and precious metal scrap together accounted for more than half of total U.S. scrap recycling industry earnings in 2012.
