A Note on Recycling Computer & Tech Items in British Columbia
The Return-It Electronics Program is a province-wide recycling program that was formed in order to collect and safely recycle unwanted electronics. Encorp Pacific Canada was selected for the program because of their experience in environmental stewardship. Their mandate on behalf of ESABC (Electronics Stewardship Association of BC) is to develop and manage a consumer-friendly and cost-effective system to recover regulated electronic products and ensure that they are recycled in a safe and environmentally sound manner, not landfilled or shipped to developing nations. Most regulated electronics can be dropped off at any designated collection site without charge, and be assured that they will be recycled responsibly. The exception to this is monitors or televisions with broken screens as they are considered hazardous materials under provincial regulations and can only be accepted at specific locations.
