Interstate Waste Services (IWS) was created by a group of entrepreneurs in Rockland County in 1998. Later the company was purchased by a private equity group and continued to grow to the point where today, IWS offers a complete portfolio of environmental services to manage waste from point of generation to final destination. Many of the founders who started Interstate over fifteen years ago are still with the company today.
Our Mission
The mission and purpose of our company is to provide our customers with the highest quality waste, recycling and environmental services.
Our Vision
To be the most efficient waste services company in the metro NY/NJ market.
Corporate Responsibility – Safeguarding Our Environment
Interstate brings an unwavering commitment to our environment with a focus on sustainability and environmental consciousness. We are constantly seeking and innovating new ways to cut emissions, recycle more effectively, and reduce the amount of waste committed to landfills.
Our parent company, the Action Environmental Group has been recognized by leading environmental and “green” organizations in the metropolitan New York area, is a founding member of Global Green’s CORR and a member of the Green Committee of the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce.Action has been cited by the New York Times in an article about the efforts of private trash haulers to create cleaner air. In the article, our CEO, Ron Bergamini, outlined Action’s support of New York City’s efforts to update the air pollution control code and Action’s commitment to reducing emissions. “With or without legislation, we support cleaner emissions for our industry.” Mr. Bergamini also noted “Action has plans underway to replace 50% of our 80 trucks by 2020.”We’re proud to note that Action Environmental Group has received recognition at the Global Green Sustainable Design 14th Annual Awards for the opening of our state-of-the-art material recovery center in the Bronx, which has empowered us to significantly increase the volume and diversity of materials we recycle citywide.
You’re busy managing your business. That’s why you need a waste recycling and disposal company that knows how to manage its business. At Interstate Waste Services, we’re professional, dependable and committed to managing your waste in the most efficient manner.
Construction sites generate a lot of debris. The quick and correct disposal of that debris is critical to your project’s schedule and cost. Interstate Waste Services offers complete construction and demolition (C&D) waste removal, recycling and disposal services provided by some of the most experienced professionals in the industry.
Along with local Material Recovery Facilities, IWS is now able to utilize an award winning MRF of our parent company, the Action Environmental Group. The future of waste management lies in recycling and green initiatives. At Action’s state-of-the-art Material Recovery Facility (MRF), we engage in the automated processing of paper, cardboard, glass, plastic, and aluminum. Our team has decades of experience in operating facilities and the innovative Bronx site is one of the most modern and efficient in the metropolitan area. Today, we keep more and more materials out of landfills through greater efficiency and leading-edge technology.Operating a facility of this type affords the Action Environmental Group the opportunity to remove any recyclable material from the waste stream prior to disposal. In addition to preserving landfill capacity, this process assists in our continuing efforts to control overall costs for our customers.
In early 2014, this facility received recognition at the Global Green Sustainable Design 14th Annual Awards for increasing recycling of valuable materials citywide. On site, we have installed an advanced new technology: the RedWave NIR/C. This is an optical sorting machine that recognizes and separates the material and the color in only one step. Different kinds of material, like colored printed and not printed cardboard, catalogues, newspapers, magazines, plastics, etc. can be identified by Near Infrared. There is a big advantage in the separation of brown and gray cardboard due to the additional color sensors. Our facility is the only one of its kind in the region, and possibly the country.
