Service — Stewardship — Education. These are three of the words that describe what we do, as well as who we are, as a full-service refuse hauling, transportation, and recycling company.
Since 1956, Homewood Disposal has continued building its business on the core values of founder Wendell (Wendy) E. Yonker. Those values, loyalty and integrity, inspire our ongoing commitment to provide “the kind of service others only promise.” Homewood Disposal provides residential, commercial, industrial, special hauling, sweeping, recycling, and portable restroom services to thousands of residential customers and 12,500 commercial customers in 80 communities. Over the years, Homewood Disposal has acquired other companies, including Nuway Disposal, Star Disposal, Kankakee Disposal, Tinley Park Disposal, Heartland Disposal, and Star Disposal of Indiana. Yet, no matter the name we go by in your service area, we operate under the same core values…and the same trusted teal color!
Even after 60 years, Homewood Disposal strives each day to provide a superior level of service to customers throughout our expansive service areas in Illinois and Indiana. We offer reliable trash, recycling, and dumpster services for residents, and economical, efficient, and environmentally-responsible waste and recycling solutions for businesses.
Homewood Disposal is committed to protecting the environment. Partnering with customers in our stewardship of the planet, we have been providing residential recycling since 1990, and today process an average of 600 tons of materials in our state-of-the-art Material Recovery Facility. In addition, our refuse trucks run on compressed natural gas, or CNG, a clean burning fuel. We have also established two CNG stations, one of which is open to the public.
Homewood Disposal is passionate about teaching the next generation about the importance of recycling and its benefit to the environment. Company representatives regularly visit schools and encourage youth in celebrating Earth Day through special contests and activities. Students always enjoy a visit from our education program mascot, Wendy the Waste Truck. We also welcome groups to our facility and classroom for on-site field trips.
Our state of the art sorting and processing facility allows us to accept a variety of recycling materials from your business in one container. You can recycle cardboard, newspaper, junk mail, paper, magazines, plastic containers, cartons, tin and aluminum cans. Unique or high volume recycling can make use of our compactor, bale route, and staged trailer services.
Recycling Services
The WeSort recycling program for businesses is our flagship program. WeSort is the perfect solution for businesses that generate consistent volumes of cardboard, newspaper, office paper, plastic containers, and tin and aluminum cans.WeSort containers are available in many different sizes to fit your specific business needs and are clearly marked with a WeSort Recycling decal. Pickup frequency is up to you too.
Bale route service is for businesses who already have a baler or a high volume of recyclable material. We arrive onsite and load your material on our flat bed truck with our skid steer. No disruption and your employees keep working. Our material payback program pays you for the materials we load.
If your business generates a large volume of recyclable material, compactor service might be the option for you. A compactor pushes and compacts the material into a large container (Stationary Compactor), which gets dumped at our recycling facility when full.
From manufacturing facilities to restaurants, we provide our business customers with cost-effective waste disposal plans that fit their unique waste situation. Our wide variety of container sizes and configurations allows our account managers to develop business waste solutions that are environmentally responsible, cost-effective, and precisely what you need.We provide our business customers with seamless service and flexible scheduling. Contact one of our account managers to evaluate and develop your waste solution today!
We currently operate three transfer stations. The East Hazel Crest and Park Forest stations are in Illinois, and the third is located in Valparaiso, Indiana. Garbage, yard waste and recycling material is brought to these locations from homes and business in our service area and beyond. From here, garbage and yard waste is loaded into transfer trailers which take the material to landfills and composting sites. At the East Hazel Crest location, recycling material is unloaded separately and Diversified Recycling’s MRF (Material Recovery Facility) sorts and processes the recyclables.
All sites are open to the public; accepting loads of garbage, yard waste, recycling and construction material. Yard waste is accepted April 1 – November 30 ONLY. We CANNOT accept tires, electronic waste, liquids or hazardous material. Check our Hard to Handle section for disposal options for these items. Our East Hazel Crest location is also capable of accepting 53-foot recycling trailers.
