In 1956 Philip Apkin bought a 6 acre lot of land. Along the way he added a 10,000 square foot warehouse, insert a desire to excel and George Apkin & Sons was born. The family business grew to include Phil’s sons Joe and Bill in the mid 1980’s. Today the company operates from two locations, both in Northern Berkshire County. The North Adams location handles the retail, ferrous and bulk lots; while the 60,000 square foot warehouse accommodates the wholesale side.

Various sizes of scrap boxes are available for transportation of your material by our fleet of roll-off, end-dump, van trailers and flatbed trucks.
CONSTRUCTION AND DEMOLITION
Don’t worry about needing help to unload your materials at our yard! We offer unloading service by our professional on-site material handlers including magnet, grapple, font end loader, and forklift operators. Pickup services are available according to your need. We can also come to your site with our mobile shear.

SHEAR
George Apkin & Sons uses a 1200 ton capacity mobile shear. The capabilities of this machine include plant dismantling. Additional support equipment enables us to ensure complete and total site clean-up. We have the capacity to arrange a variety of transportation options to meet your need. Our experienced shearing crew is creative and well-equipped to handle the most challenging projects.Apkin’s mobile shear is perfect for on-site processing of rail cars, paper mills, structural materials, bridges, tanks, and other bulky materials.
