The Fremont Recycling and Transfer Station is a multipurpose solid and hazardous waste management and material recovery facility owned and operated by BLT Enterprises, Inc. Tri Cities residents can take advantage of our award winning transfer station for all their waste disposal and recycling needs.

Our Vision

The Fremont Recycling & Transfer Station has a goal of providing a responsible solution to waste generation. In doing so, we believe it is our responsibility to provide this service in a manner that minimizes our impact on the environment, that provides our workforce with a safe environment in which to perform, increases the diversion of materials from our limited landfill space, and to work with community leaders in developing sustainable solutions for todays waste management needs.

Our Programs

Renewable Energy - Beginning in October of 2010, the Fremont Recycling & Transfer Station will begin installing more than 1600 solar panels on our facility. Once complete, these panels will generate enough renewable energy to satisfy more than 98% of our power demand!

Energy Conservation - The transfer station was originally designed and constructed to take advantage of one of California’s most well-known assets, the sun! Operating with more than 100 skylights throughout the facility, the Fremont Recycling and Transfer Station has long been committed to energy efficiency and conservation. Additionally, the facility utilizes motion sensing light switches throughout the facility. When there is no activity in a room, these switches automatically turn off the lights.In the fall of 2010, the facility will begin a lighting overhaul in the processing plant and warehouse. This project will replace the existing metal halide lamps with more energy efficient, fluorescent fixtures. Once complete, the energy demand required for illuminating the facility will decrease by more then 50%.

Transportation - All of the waste materials delivered to the transfer station must eventually leave either in the form of recovered recyclables or residual solid waste. To minimize the impact of our transportation activities, the facility utilizes high-volume possum belly trailers to transport solid waste to the landfill. These high-volume trailers can legally haul up to 10% more waste than a standard waste hauling trailer. More tons per load equates to less trips to the landfill.Our entire fleet of transfer trucks utilize “clean diesel” technology to reduce our diesel emissions. Our newest trucks use a urea injection process that is the only technology available that can remove enough NOx from diesel exhaust to comply with strict new limits imposed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

To further reduce our impact on the Bay Area’s traffic conditions, our facility employs creative dispatching techniques to keep our large vehicles off the freeways during peek commute hours. While we cannot always avoid the commute windows, we make every possible effort to minimize our impact on already heavy Bay Area traffic.

Recently, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) imposed new strict clean air emission standards on all trucks accessing the Port of Oakland, California. The Fremont Recycling and Transfer Station only ships recyclables internationally in units being powered by trucks that meet this strict new standard.

Our People - At the Fremont Recycling and Transfer Station, we believe our people are our strongest and most valuable asset. For this reason we believe there is no existing program more critical to the success of our company than our employee safety and training program. Implemented by the local management team, this program has produced astonishing results in the area of employee safety. In 2008, the California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal OSHA) recognized our safety success by presenting the facility with the Golden Gate recognition award. This award recognizes the Fremont Recycling & Transfer Station for our demonstrated commitment to worker safety.

Our facility has operated without a lost-time injury since April of 2006. We credit this safety success to the cooperative efforts of our dedicated frontline staff and local management working in unison toward the same safety goal.

The Environment - The Fremont Recycling and Transfer Station was designed to meet and respond to the ever-changing waste processing needs of an environmentally progressive community like the Tri-Cities. We take our responsibility seriously and strive hard to maintain our site and the surrounding community in a condition that all Tri-Cities residents can be proud of.

As part of this commitment, the facility has designed an implemented an aggressive litter control program to preserve the condition of our facility along with neighboring businesses. Each day we dispatch one of our dedicated employees to clean all the litter in the surrounding neighborhood without regard to its source. The collected litter is then returned to our facility where it is properly managed at our expense.

To further enhance these efforts, our facility operates two industrial sweeping units that traverse our site daily picking up loose debris and controlling dust.

Facility Facts

• The Fremont Recycling and Transfer Station opened for business in June 2006;
• In 2010 our facility became the first solar powered transfer station and material recovery facility in Alameda County;
• Our facility is the recipient of a number of environmental and safety awards including CalOSHA's prestigious SHARP Certification presented for our commitment to worker safety;
• Our facility hosts the City of Fremont's annual Compost Giveaway Day;
• Our facility has diverted more than 250,000 tons of recyclable materials since 2006
• The Fremont Recycling and Transfer Station processes more than 1,000 tons of recyclables and solid waste every day!;
• The fully enclosed transfer station is more 180,000 square feet and sits on slightly more than 13 acres on Boyce Road in Fremont;

The Fremont Recycling and Transfer Station hosts Alameda County's newest Household Hazardous Waste Facility. Conveniently located at the transfer station we gladly accept household hazardous waste from all cities within Alameda County Free of Charge!
