The Franklin County Recycling Center opened in December of 1994. From that time on we have been diverting thousands of pounds of recyclables from the landfills. The residents of the county have made the recycling center a success. Most of the paper, glass, plastic, tin cans, clothing, and aluminum cans are brought in to the facility by the public. The bulk of cardboard comes from businesses and schools that we pickup with our trucks on our routes. On the third Thursday of each month we pickup recyclables from the elderly at their homes in Ottawa. These are residents that want to recycle but are unable to deliver the items to the recycle center. We have approximately 38 stops on our elderly recycling pickup route. In the spring of 2006 the recycle center started recycling E-Waste including: computers, monitors, printers, televisions, phones, etc.
