Founded in 1914 as a rag and scrap paper sorting operation in St. Louis, we expanded into the national brokerage business in the 1940′s. By the 1950′s, Federal was helping some of the nation’s largest printers market their recyclables. During those years, we were known as a company where honesty and integrity always came first.

During the 1960′s, Federal became a leader in the foam trading, recycling, and manufacturing businesses. Over the next 20 years, we built companies in England, Holland, Belgium, Denmark, Puerto Rico, Nigeria, Uganda, Italy, Canada, and the United States. Today our foam division still owns plants throughout the U.S. and Europe and remains the leading marketing company of scrap foam for recycling.

By 1980, Federal’s Recycling division grew to become the premier waste paper marketing company for printers, box shops, grocery distribution, and convertors. Federal Today

We employ over 350 people worldwide, and last year our revenues exceeded $135 million. Our Foam Division operates facilities in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Holland, Belgium, and Italy – each one manufacturing foam parts and products. Additionally, they market scrap foam throughout the world as a raw material in carpet underlay.Our Recycling Division, based in St. Louis, MO, has sales offices in Minnesota and Texas and recycling plants in Missouri and Texas. We service customers throughout all of North America – from Vancouver and Maine to Miami and Los Angeles. Our partnerships with local recycling plants allow us to service all of your recyclables throughout the U.S. and Canada.

Materials We Recycle

Federal International works diligently to provide the best and final use for all recyclable commodities.  Our recycling efforts turn waste back into consumer products.  We turn:

• paper into tissue
• styrofoam into building materials
• plastics into lumber and carpet
• metal into reusable metal
• electronics into valuable commodities

We go above and beyond to find reliable end users for material that comes in through our facility.  We even recycle glass into utility bedding instead of that material going to the landfill.The process is simple – no matter how the material comes to us we work to source, separate it, process it, and ship it to a mill to be made back into a product.  This process of recycling is good for the environment and puts people to work.  We look to be “green” one customer at a time.

Recycle Bins / Containers

Federal International provides standard 96 gallon containers for our commercial recycling customers that come standard with;  handles, lid, kick plate, and rubber wheels.  Additionally, green tote bins can be provided for all recycling materials as well as gray shred bins for document destruction with paper slot and HASP lock that will stay locked until shredded.

We’ll swap out all bins and replace with empties based on a standard schedule. We provide the recycling bins upon account activation.  All we ask is that you please remove all food waste and non-recyclable materials and trash.We can also provide pallets and cardboard boxes for bulk recycling needs upon request as well as compactors, balers and over-the-road trailers.

Paper Shredding Services

Federal International provides secure-site document destruction and paper shredding services for business, schools and government organizations.  With our new document destruction service we are able to offer our customers peace of mind that confidential information is disposed of properly through the paper shredding process and then recycled back into paper products at a paper mill.Everyone has the need to discard confidential information and with a rise in identity theft, vandalism and industrial espionage, we provide a way of safeguarding your information through the destruction of confidential paperwork.

Single Stream Recycling

Federal International provides cost effective and quality-driven programs for several grades of recyclable materials including; paper, plastic, metal and glass. Recyclables are sorted, cleaned, crushed or shredded and processed into large bales for shipment to local and international recycling markets.Single stream recycling programs eliminate the need for residents to sort their recyclable materials – all can be mixed in one large bin for curbside recycling collection. Single stream recycling programs decrease the cost of collection and increase the convenience of recycling, typically resulting in increased volume and environmental impact recycling rates.
