Ekco Metals was founded in 1966 by Ely Keenberg who previously spent 17 years working with scrap metal. Ekco began on a 25,000 s.f. lot and today is a 4 acre facility completely paved, fully modernized with three loading docks each capable of handling four containers. Also there are four truck scales, two large new 15 ton capacity cranes, a Harris two stroke metal baler for non-ferrous scrap and a recently purchased Sierra 1000 ton baler/cutter for ferrous scrap. The yard is just minutes away from Long Beach/Los Angeles ports enabling Ekco to be very competitive with other shippers.
We are one of the West Coast’s largest handlers of non-ferrous metals. We also ship large quantities of ferrous scrap to the Far East. Our main suppliers comprise both California and out-of-state dealers as well as industrial producers of scrap. In addition, Ekco Metals has many long term contracts with many municipalities acting as their sole scrap vendor. Another source of metal/iron comes from our San Diego branch which serves that area and maintains scrap contracts with several major suppliers. Our staff is comprised of highly qualified, knowledgeable scrap veterans, many of whom have been with Ekco two and three decades, with second generation employees in the workplace.
We have many expensive Niton Metal Detectors in use, thus ensuring the quality of our package. Ekco is known throughout the Far East for having a product that meets every buyer’s needs. Knowing the metal came from Ekco Metals, the buyer melts the material, knowing that the finished ingot will meet specifications. Ekco Metals faces the future world’s growth with confidence and will continue to increase more capital spending in order to keep the Ekco name at the forefront of our nation’s scrap export picture.
