Aluminum Cans

Numerous industries use aluminum because of its strength, versatility, and low density. Aluminum cans and other kitchen objects like foil, saucepans, utensils, and light appliances are usually the first applications that come to mind with good reason. Worldwide, almost 500 billion cans are produced each year, accounting for approximately 20% of aluminum’s use. With its ideal properties, aluminum is also used in planes, automobiles, packaging, and construction, and the metal helps form bridges, skyscrapers, and stadiums. As the price of copper has increased, aluminum is replacing it in power lines, wiring systems, and transformers. Since replacing wood and iron with aluminum, sporting equipment like baseball bats, tennis rackets, and golf clubs have become lighter and stronger.Aluminum is also one of the easiest metals to recycle. Like copper, aluminum can be recycled over and over without losing its key characteristics. Because refining and manufacturing virgin aluminum is highly energy intensive, aluminum recycling takes only about 5% of the energy that is needed to manufacture the same item out of virgin aluminum.

Copper Recycling

Thousands of years ago, copper became the first metal widely used by humans. A non-ferrous metal, copper is valued because it is an efficient conductor of electricity, losing only a fraction of the charge during transmission. It may not be surprising that electrical applications such as wiring, account for 70% of copper usage. Construction, manufacturing, and transportation account for much of the remaining 30%.
Like aluminum, copper can be recycled indefinitely without losing its key properties or having degraded performance. Copper has one of the highest recycling rates among metals and retains a high proportion of its original value. Much of the copper in use today has come from copper recycling. At the same time, copper recycling rates have remained relatively stable over time, and most estimates indicate about 35% of discarded copper is diverted to landfills instead of recycling centers. You may have copper in the form of pipes, plumbing fixtures, electrical wire and coils from household appliances. Some kettles, pots, pans, and kitchen utensils are made from copper. Copper roofing scraps, yard statuaries, and metal wall décor could also yield a solid return when brought to us for copper recycling.

Steel Recycling

Steel, a ferrous metal due to the presence of iron in its composition, is the most recycled metal in North America. The Steel Recycling Institute estimates that a billion tons of steel have been recycled since 1988 alone! The steel industry has a long history of recycling due to the demand for steel and the extensive costs of steel extraction and refining.A mainstay in the construction industry, the strong metal provides skeletal supports for buildings, frames for vehicles, and strength and durability for heavy equipment. Non-corrosive stainless steel provides the ideal material for kitchen utensils, cans, food and beverage containers, catering equipment, medical instruments, and more because it is durable, stable at high temperatures and free of harmful chemicals. Stainless steel has been a popular material for making kitchen sinks, trash cans, and other appliances.Make some quick cash by using our responsible steel recycling service. Bring your unwanted stainless steel material and scraps to Eagle Recycling Center’s Loganville, Lawrenceville, Snellville and Monroe, GA facility today. Our steel recycling service conscientiously diverts stainless steel from the waste stream so that it can be repurposed and reused. This reduces energy use, environmental damage from mining, and manufacturing costs and benefits all consumers with lower prices and decreased environmental impact.
