The D.H. Griffin family of companies began with the opening of our demolition company. D. H. Griffin Wrecking Company, Inc. was founded in 1959.
Since that first project in 1959, the company has grown steadily. In 1967, the small demolition and recycling company known today as D. H. Griffin Wrecking Co., Inc. was incorporated. In the years since that time, the wrecking company has grown to be the one of the largest demolition contractors in the world. Engineering News and Record (ENR) ranked D. H. Griffin Wrecking Co., Inc. in the Top 20 Firms in Demolition and Wrecking, as the 3rd largest demolition company in the United States in its annual ENR 2013 Top 600 Specialty Contractors issue in October 2013. In the same issue, Demolition & Asbestos Removal Inc. (DARI) was ranked in the Top 20 Firms in Asbestos Abatement at #13.
D.H. Griffin Wrecking Co., Inc. and affiliate Demolition and Asbestos Removal Inc. recently completed the asbestos abatement and decommissioning of the Port Everglades Power Plant in December. The project included demolition and removal of (4) generating units: (2) nominal 200-megawatt units and (2) nominal 400-megawatt units, each consisting of conventional dual-fuel fired steam boilers, steam turbine generators and associated support facilities. DHG utilized both conventional and implosive demolition techniques to bring down the facility, including (4) 350‘ stacks. DHG crushed onsite and sold 100,000 tons of concrete. Work performed Dec 2012 through Feb 2014.
D. H. Griffin Wrecking has been contracted by Kiewit Infrastructures South Company to perform the fast track demolition of (8) I-40 bridges as part of the TN Dept. of Transportation's Fast Fix Eight campaign in Nashville, TN. In this video, DHG begins demolition at 8:00 p.m. immediately after the bridge closes and is complete by sunrise the following day. This time-lapse video shows a 48-hour weekend of work for the demolition and reconstruction of one bridge.
More than 55 years of dependable service has established our demolition division, D.H. Griffin Wrecking Co., Inc. (DHGW) as one of the leading demolition specialist in the country. Since 2007, DHGW has been ranked in the top 5 industrial demolition contractors in the country by Engineering News and Record Magazine. Most recently, our ranking among large demolition companies was #4 (Engineering News-Record – Top 600 Specialty Contractors, 2015).
We have the ability to perform a wide range of demolition services for the removal of commercial structures. We have an outstanding record of exceeding client expectations for construction demolition. While also maintaining a safe working environment for our employees and contractors as well.
We strive to be a trusted demolition contractor known for completing projects on time. Additionally, we work hard to adhere to budgetary constraints. Our goal for every demolition contract is to provide quality service and maintain safety protocols.
D. H. Griffin provides turnkey dismantlement, cleanup and asset recovery solutions for demolition and dismantlement projects, allowing us to maximize the resale value of plant assets. The assets resulting from demolition include both scrap metal and items that can be resold. Asset recovery is extremely important as the proceeds gained from the sale of used equipment or recycling of scrap metals generated by a project represent the primary source of revenue to be applied towards the cost of operations. D. H. Griffin’s experienced project managers and used equipment team will deliver the best solution for used equipment resell or scrap recycling.
D. H. Griffin is recognized as an industry leader in metals recycling. Our network of longstanding relationships with steel mills, foundries, brokers, processors and scrap dealers, ensures you get the biggest bang for your buck when you do business with DHG. We have an extensive fleet of trucks and containers that are prepared to haul away scrap from your jobsite. As a scrap metal recycler, D. H. Griffin handles ferrous metals such as iron and steel, nonferrous metals such as copper and aluminum, and precious metals such as platinum, nickel and many other alloys. If you generate scrap metal or have an old equipment laydown yard or bone yard, D. H. Griffin can assist you with identifying, separating, transporting and purchasing your scrap.
In addition to used equipment and scrap metal recycling, D. H. Griffin can salvage building materials for reuse. Today’s market is strong for heart pine boards and beams, which can be reused for building materials or cut and used for furniture manufacturing. Concrete, block and brick can be crushed and reused onsite for redevelopment of a site or sold for offsite use. Recycling or salvaging demo debris not only diverts materials from the landfill, but it also saves energy and the environmental impacts of producing new products from virgin materials. D. H. Griffin is a member of the US Green Building Council which promotes the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program – encouraging recycling or salvage of demolition and construction debris. For any projects applying for LEED certification, D.H. Griffin is experienced with the recycling documentation needed for LEED credits.
