Our philosophy
We know there is more to successful solid-waste disposal than simply picking up the garbage. It has to be done in a manner that satisfies not only the individual customer, but also the community and the environment. In the ideal waste-management system, there would be no waste; every article of refuse could be reclaimed, just as in nature. We work to come as close to that as possible, always striving to employ the latest technology to make our systems more efficient and comprehensive.
Using the latest equipment and handling methods, we offer a variety of residential and commercial services to the City of Davis, El Macero, Willowbank, rural Davis and rural Yolo County:
Davis Waste Removal began curbside collection of newspapers in 1974 at the suggestion of local environmental advocates. Later the same year, pickup was expanded to include cans and bottles.
In 1976, Davis Waste Removal took over the entire recycling program, which has since expanded to include mixed paper, glass, aluminum cans, steel and tin cans, most plastics, corrugated cardboard, yard waste and used motor oil. We have a drop-off and buy-back center and provide residential curbside, apartment and business collection services.
The City of Davis and Davis Waste Removal recycling program has received local, state and national awards for its efforts, including recognition from the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the National Recycling Coalition.
Residential recycling carts (and the trucks that service them) have two separate compartments to reduce paper contamination and maximize the amount of paper recycled. Follow the label on each lid detailing what can be placed inside the cart's compartments. Place paper and smaller cardboard pieces in one side. Place rigid plastics, glass bottles and cans in the other side. Plastic bags still must be taken to grocery stores to recycle. Cardboard boxes larger than two cubic feet should be flattened and placed next to the curb. Do not place trash inside the recycling cart.
Yard waste
Customers opting for this service will be provided with a 95-gallon green cart to be used exclusively for yard waste materials, including grass clippings, brush and tree prunings. Green carts contaminated with household trash, plastic bags, rocks, soil, concrete or other items will not be serviced. Green carts will be serviced on your regular garbage and recycling day. When you have large volumes of prunings or leaves.
