Our history goes back to the 1970’s when our founder, Francisco Lizardi, was driven by his entrepreneurial spirit to start a small business collecting scrap metal generated by industries and people in general. He began with a small truck doing rounds all over the island. As a visionary ahead of his times, he reinvested part of the profits he generated in a piece of land in the Turabo ward in Caguas, and in machinery that would allow him to continue growing. Little by little, what started out as a micro business became Borinquen Metals, one of the largest metal exporting companies in the Caribbean.
Formally founded in 1981, our Puerto Rican company is one of the largest private entities in the United States involved in the sale and purchase of metals. We continue growing and expanding operations into other recyclable materials such as cardboard and plastics.
Currently we have two collection and processing facilities; our original one in the Turabo ward in Caguas, and a second one in the Mamey ward in Gurabo. They are both managed by a second generation of Lizardis, thus maintaining the essence and founding principles of the company.
Our Mission is to provide excellent recycling services in Puerto Rico with a firm commitment to protect the environment, save our natural resources and promote recycling.
We have the most modern equipment and the latest technology to guarantee the highest quality processing of your materials for export. If you prefer to bring your materials to us, you can count on our full compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. We weigh your materials and guarantee the best possible payment on the spot.
Our facilites offer metal melting services, in addition to our vast experience in brokerage services for micro and small businesses in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean to facilitate the export of metals.
For over three decades, Borinquen Metals has contributed significantly to the conservation of our island’s natural resources through our metal recycling facilities. We are a member of the Puerto Rico Metal Recycling Association, which represents a formal industry that has been around for more than 60 years, and generates over $200 million annually to our island’s economy in terms of sales, job creation and taxes.
In addition to the economic benefits it represents, the metal recycling industry is a fundamental component in the protection and conservation of our environment, as well as the sustainable development of Puerto Rico.
Borinquen Metals is committed to the preservation of Puerto Rico’s environment and to promoting recycling in order to raise the recycling rates in the island.
