About Yard

Atlantic Coast Recycling, Inc was incorporated in 1977, and is a secondary metal recycling facility. Dealer in Non-ferrous metals such as copper, aluminum, brass, radiators, aluminum-copper reefers, sheet aluminum, extruded aluminum, and stainless steel. Atlantic Coast Recycling, Inc strives to be the leader in the recycling of non-ferrous metals in the Treasure Coast.

History

Atlantic Coast Recycling, Inc. hereinafter referred to as (“ATCO”) is engaged in collecting, processing & smelting of nonferrous metals for resale to metal brokers, producers, and foundries. We collect industrial scrap and obsolete scrap, segregate into useable commodities and sell recycled metals to secondary smelters, foundries and metal brokers.

The scrap metal industry is composed of more than 3,000 independent metal recycling facilities. Most of these companies, like “ATCO”, are family owned and operate in only local or regional markets. We at “ATCO” believe the scrap metals recycling industry is, and will continue to be, locally and regionally based. At present, our purchasing territory covers the area of Florida from Daytona to Orlando to Tampa to Fort Meyers to Miami to Key West.

“ATCO” has adhered to a policy and strategy to improve efficiency and profitability, by maximizing the turnover of scrap inventory. We believe this strategy reduces exposure to price fluctuations in the marketplace. We also feel this contributes to a better customer relationship by allowing a steady and reliable supply of processed scrap.

As a wise man once told us, “Never fall in love with Inventory!”

We prepare our nonferrous scrap metals, primarily aluminum, for the resale by sorting, shredding, cutting, shearing, or baling. We accomplish this with a twin 75 hp Nexgen two ram baler, an HRB baler, several downstroke balers, hydraulic shears and an alligator shear. We also have a spectrometer for testing aluminum for proper alloys and segregation.

“ATCO” is environmentally compliant with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the United States Environmental Protection Act. In 1997, ATCO obtained a Federal EPA air emissions permit to allow for further expansion.

“ATCO” was incorporated in 1977 in the state of Florida. At that time, Herbert Horne, with over 20 years in the scrap business, his wife, Vivian Horne and their son, Herbert “Skip” Horne, Jr. were directors of the corporation. In 1979, another son, John Horne joined “ATCO” and became a director.

Today, Skip Horne is a director, President & C.E.O., John Horne is a director, Executive Vice President and Mark Horne is a director without title in the corporation, upon the retirement of Herbert and Vivian Horne in 1992.

In late 2002, “ATCO” brought in a management team to organize and prioritize our existing structure and to assist our go-to General Manager since 1982, Ardie Rudd. In early 2004, Ardie Rudd was promoted to Vice President of Operations. The new team consists of two very experienced buyers with backgrounds of several years in the recycling business, Nick VanVliet, Office Manager and Jeff Ruddy, Quality Control and Logistics Supervisor. Their addition has had a remarkable turnabout in a very short time-frame. Cathy Koss was added to our team as Assistant Office Manager in 2004.

In June of 2003, John Horne became partners in an LLC in Tennessee and moved his family. John, however remains a part of the “ATCO” team in an advisory capacity on special projects, and remains on the Board of Directors of “ATCO”.

Atlantic Coast Recycling, Inc. currently processes in excess of one million pounds each month of aluminum sheet, cast aluminum, aluminum cans and extruded aluminum. We also buy large quantities of copper, brass, radiators, stainless steel and other non-ferrous metals.
