The business was started in 2001, by East Bay native and longtime Oakland resident Kevin Torrey. Kevin's original name for the company was "Haulin' Oates", but rather than saddle the fledgling operation with potential brand confusion and a dated music reference , he eventually decided on "American Hauling".
