Don’t just throw away those old batteries! Save the environment by recycling your used batteries. You can recycle used batteries in the community. While there is no province-wide program to recycle batteries, you can easily find battery recycling centres throughout Alberta. If you have non-rechargeable batteries, they may be collected by the store that sold them to you. In addition, waste reduction companies or recycling depots can usually collect recyclable batteries.
Rechargeable batteries can be recycled, as long as they contain the following chemistries: Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cd), Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH), Lithium (Li-ion), and small sealed lead (SLA). There is usually a recycling symbol on the battery when it is a candidate for recycling. Many recycling places belong to the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation (RBRC), an industry association that recycles batteries throughout North America. They only recycle rechargeable batteries. Call 1-800-8-BATTERY for a collection site near you!Automotive batteries contain large quantities of lead and therefore should always be disposed of properly. In Alberta, it is illegal to throw away your battery into a municipal solid waste landfill. When you purchase a new battery, make sure to ask if the store will take your old battery off your hands.
As one of Canada’s largest distributors of batteries, we keep our prices low and outsell all the rest of our competition. And you can have total confidence that any batteries you buy from us perform at the highest of industry standards, because we’ve already done the shopping for you.
